We audit D2C ad accounts every week, and the same seven problems show up again and again. The good news: they're all fixable, and fixing even two or three usually moves the needle. Here's what we look for first.
1. The ad promises one thing, the site shows another
The most common leak. Your ad screams "Flat 50% Off Festive Sale" but the landing page shows full prices with a tiny banner. The visitor feels tricked and bounces. Fix: the offer, price and hero image in the ad must match the first screen of the landing page. No exceptions.
2. You're sending traffic to your homepage
Your homepage is built to explain your brand. A paid landing page is built to sell one thing. Sending ad traffic to the homepage forces visitors to navigate and decide — and most won't. Fix: build dedicated landing pages per offer, with one product collection, one offer, one call to action.
3. Creative fatigue — the same 3 ads for 4 months
If your frequency is climbing past 3 and CTR is sliding, your audience has seen your ads too many times. Fix: ship 2–3 new creatives per week. UGC-style videos — a real person holding the product, shot on a phone — consistently beat polished studio creatives for Indian D2C right now.
4. No offer, or an offer nobody feels
"10% off" is not an offer in a market where everyone runs 40–50% off during festive season. Fix: make the offer impossible to ignore — bundles, free gifts above a threshold, or limited-time pricing with a real deadline. Then put it in the first 3 seconds of the creative.
5. Retargeting is an afterthought
Most brands spend 90%+ on prospecting and wonder why ROAS is low. Your warmest audience — site visitors, video viewers, add-to-carts — converts at 3–5x the rate of cold traffic. Fix: dedicate 15–25% of budget to retargeting with offer-led creatives (reviews, unboxing, limited stock).
6. You're optimising for the wrong event
Traffic campaigns optimise for clicks. Engagement campaigns optimise for likes. Neither optimises for revenue. Fix: always optimise for the purchase event (or initiate checkout if volume is low). Yes, cost per result looks higher at first — revenue per rupee is what matters.
7. The site itself kills the sale
Slow load times, no COD badge, hidden shipping costs, a 12-field checkout — any of these can halve your conversion rate no matter how good the ads are. Fix: test your own checkout on a phone right now. If it takes more than 60 seconds from product page to order confirmation, fix it before spending another rupee on ads.
Where to start
Run through this list in order. Most brands find their biggest leak in the first three items. Fix the message match and the landing page before you touch a single campaign setting — creative and funnel beat targeting tweaks every time.
